Mar 16, 2026 - FASSelangor FC secured their 55th Klang Valley Derby victory after defeating Kuala Lumpur City FC 3-2 at Stadium Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, in the 21st match of the 2025/26 Super League yesterday.
The first half saw Selangor FC take the lead in the 11th minute through a composed finish by Faisal Halim, assisted by Alvin Fortes, giving the Red Giants a 1-0 advantage at halftime. In the second half, Mamadou Diarra doubled the lead in the 60th minute after converting a header from Safuwan Baharudin, before Hugo Boumous extended the advantage to 3-0 in the 70th minute following a move initiated by Chrigor Moraes. Kuala Lumpur City FC staged a late comeback with goals from Madger Gomes at 72nd minute and Safawi Rasid at 85th minute, both assisted by Vitor Ruiz. Nevertheless, Selangor FC held on to secure all three points.
Selangor FC head coach Kim Pan-gon expressed his pride in the players’ performance, especially in the second half, while emphasising the need for the team to address their mistakes.
“We started the match positively, scoring the opening goal and controlling the game well. Although we conceded two goals, this is something we will work to improve. I am proud of the players’ commitment to building the club’s identity. It is my responsibility to provide motivation and support both on and off the pitch,” he stated.
From yesterday’s #KLCSFC match in the 2025/26 Super League, several key points can be noted:-
- Yesterday marked Selangor FC’s 55th victory over Kuala Lumpur City FC in 92 meetings.
- Faisal Halim scored his fifth goal of the season in the Super League.
- Hugo Boumous and Mamadou Diarra both opened their goal accounts for the 2025/26 Super League.
- Safuwan Baharudin registered his first league assist after heading the ball perfectly to Mamadou Diarra.
- Alvin Fortes recorded his sixth assist in the #KLCSFC fixture.
This was the final Malaysian league match for March, giving way to the Hari Raya Aidil Fitri 2026 celebrations, expected on 20 or 21 March, before the FIFA international calendar runs from 23 to 31 March.
Selangor FC’s management also expressed their gratitude to the supporters for their unwavering support and for witnessing the Red Giants’ victory in this season’s Klang Valley Derby.
